The Making of ORIGIN
How the first edition is coming together, from a single stitch to a numbered archive.
Before every archive, there is an origin.
ORIGIN began as a question about permanence. What would it mean to make apparel that is meant to be kept, recorded, and remembered, rather than replaced. The answer was to number every piece and to stop making it once fifty exist.
The work starts in Singapore as drawings and ends in India as cloth. Each stage is slow on purpose. Sampling takes longer than a season because the embroidery has to sit correctly, and because a flaw in an edition is a flaw in the record.
Fifty editions will exist. There will be no fifty-first.
